Procedures as of June 22, 2011
The following information and procedures are effective as of June 22, 2011. Previous information and procedures will no longer be valid, recognized, or accepted as of this date.



Hours of Operation
Monday - Friday: 9:30 am - 12:00 pm / 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm (on most days, call in advance to verify)
*In the event of a public holiday or Embassy closure, the consular section will not be open. Closures will be announced via the main page of the Embassy’s Web site.

For visa or other consular services appointments outside the above hours, please call the Consular Section (03-5574-7612) to check the availability of an appointment.



Payment for Services
The Embassy does not accept payment in cash. Payment must be made using the inter-bank remittance system in US dollars before the submission of any application for a service (including a visa). Payments should be made to the following account:

Please enter the full name of the principal applicant as the payer. Applicants are responsible for any service charge including currency conversion levied by the bank. Agents can enter the name of their agency as the payer. Note that the original or a copy of the remittance receipt is required with your application.

Please note that the fee paid to the Embassy bank account is non-refundable, even when the document or visa is not issued. If you have questions regarding the application, please contact Consular Section in advance.

Shipping costs for transactions handled by mail:
Please do not make shipping fee payments to the Embassy either in cash or to the Embassy bank account. If paid to the Embassy, the Embassy will not refund the cost for any reason and will not use the money to pay shipping costs. See instructions for shipping arrangements below.

  • For those sending application/collecting document(s) via mail from within Japan, please enclose an envelop with postage for registered mail, or a “letterpack” envelope. If we do not receive a stamped return envelop, we will send the document(s) via cash-on-delivery (i.e. “Yu-pack”).
  • For international delivery, please provide a courier’s account number that will bill you the shipping fees.
