H.E. Dr. Sayed Mohammad Amin Fatimie

H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mohammad Amin Fatimie was born on January 15, 1952 in Nangarhar Province.

H.E. earned his MD from Nangarhar Medical College in 1977. Post-doctorate, Dr. Fatimie received from the University of Bonn in Germany a Certificate of Emergency Medical Care in 1985; from the National Institute of Public Administration in Karachi, Pakistan a Certificate of Systematic Training Design in 1988; and a Certificate of Health Care in Developing Countries from Boston University in 1995.

Early in his career H.E. served as a doctor in Badakhshan Province, later working as a lecturer at the Institute of Public Health in Kabul.

Dr. Fatimie was a member of the Health Education Department and served as a member of the advisory board of the Health Ministry in the interim government during the early 1990s. In the Ministry of Public Health in Afghanistan he has served as Deputy Minister and First Deputy Minister.

In 1993, Dr. Fatimie was assigned the post of Minister of Public Health for Afghanistan, serving in that role until 1995. Concurrently, H.E. served as a member of the Board of the Medical Services Development for Afghans and the Ladies Hospital for Afghan Refugees from 1991 to 2001.

Dr. Fatimie has served as a temporary advisor to the World Health Organization in Geneva, Switzerland, for Mediterranean countries, and from 1992 to 1994, as a member of the Executive Board of WHO.

Between the years of 1996 and 2001, H.E. held the position of Permanent Advisor for the WHO/ Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean (EMRO) in Egypt.

Appointed as Public Health Minister of Afghanistan in 2004, H.E. served in this position through to 2010.

Dr. Fatimie speaks fluent Pashto, Dari, and English.

As of December 8, 2010, he has been serving as Ambassador to Japan.
