Q 1: How long is my visa valid for?

It is good for three months from the date of issue.
You may enter Afghanistan within three months from the date the visa is issued.
You may remain in Afghanistan for the period which you applied.

Q 2: How do I extend my visa once in Afghanistan?

*Thursday afternoons and Fridays, offices are closed.

Visa Fees:

A one-month extension for a single visa is $ 10 and for a multiple visa is $ 20.
Extensions can be made for up to 6 months.

Q 3: What kind of visas do you have?

We issue 3 kinds of entry visas at the embassy.

Single entry:

A single entry visa means if during your desired length of stay you wish to leave Afghanistan without obtaining a new entry visa, you cannot re-enter the country.
We recommend this type for people who stay in Afghanistan for less than 15 days.

Double entry:

A double entry visa means that during your desired length of stay, you can leave Afghanistan once and re-enter the country once again.
We recommend this type for people who stay in Afghanistan longer than one month or plan to visit a neighboring country.

Multiple entry:

A multiple entry visa means that during your desired length of stay, you can leave and re-enter Afghanistan many times.
With the exception of diplomatic and official passports, multiple visa applicants must undergo an an interview.

Example:

I received a double visa for 90 days on February 20, 2008 and entered Afghanistan on March 1, 2008.

  • You should enter Afghanistan at the latest before May 19, 2008.
  • It is possible to stay for 90 days from March 1, 2008 to the end of May.
  • You can re-enter the country once if it’s before May 30, 2008.

The visa fee is determined by length of stay.
Fees: 3,750 yen for 15 days, 7,500 yen for 30 days and 15,000 yen for 90 days.

Q 4: What are the Consular Section's Opening Hours and Holidays?

Please visit our website at www.afghanembassyjp.com. We have a Consular Hours Calendar at the Embassy for distribution. Please note that because the Islamic Calendar is based on the lunar cycle, some holidays may fall a day before or after the predicted Gregorian solar calendar date. In such cases, Afghan religious holidays will be periodically updated when the dates become fixed.

Q 5: Can I receive a visa on the same day of issuing?

We do not have same-day service.
The embassy has the right to refuse issuance of official or ordinary visas per its discretion.
In case of emergency, please call the Embassy Consular Section at 03-5465-1220.

Q 6: Do you have any procedures for the press and other media?

All press and media related visitors must register at the Media Relations Office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Chahar Rahee Malek-Asghar, Kabul, upon arrival in Afghanistan to obtain a letter of accreditation.
