A Welcome Message from

H.E. Dr. Bashir Mohabbat

Ambassador to Japan from

the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.

Dear friends,

Greetings to you and welcome to the website for the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Japan. On behalf of the diplomats, all our staff, and myself we would like to thank you for taking the time to visit our Embassy page.

Each day I have the honor of serving to continue and further the deeply amicable relations between my home country and my host country – Afghanistan and the noble nation of Japan. These two countries whose friendly relations have stood for thousands of years and through many events together; steadfast and enduring on the road to achieving peace and prosperity.

Our embassy building being present in the great nation of Japan’s megalopolis capital of Tokyo hallmarks the long and ongoing amicable and beneficial diplomatic relationship between Afghanistan and its many international partners. Those of us lucky enough to call this place home, or home of our mission, or even just home for now know how magnificent and awe inspiring Tokyo, and moreover Japan is. We are all fortunate to call the master nation of Peace, Japan, a true friend and great partner.

My friends, Afghanistan is a wondrous and unique country that would make you fall in love with her at first glance. Located at the heart of the Silk Road, Afghanistan is a flourishing melting pot of commerce, knowledge, and advancement, filled with an ancient history, and a remarkable culture that defines our nation and our society. The lands of Afghanistan are rich and fertile, and its sky stretches vastly over its mountains, which have stood strong and resistant to wind and weather long over time.

However, it is the people of Afghanistan who are the most precious fruit of our country – their minds are as rich as the fields, their hearts are as vast as the sky, and they stand together united as strong as the mountains. As highlighted in our National Anthem, the people from Afghanistan come from many diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds but as one spirit strive towards unity, tolerance, peace, and happiness.

Nearly a century since gaining independence, our great country has undergone countless challenges and hardships, but together we have grown as a nation, overcoming difficulties, standing united in our pursuit for peace. Reinforced by the generous support of the International community, we have been able to accomplish great progress in developing Afghanistan – in particular since the establishment of the new National Unity Government in 2014, under the cooperative leadership of H.E. President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and H.E. Chief Executive Dr. Abdullah Abdullah. Significant and unparalleled achievements have been made across many sectors such as economic revitalization, human capacity training, agricultural self-sustainability, infrastructure development, urban planning, education, and women’s rights.

We have been fortunate for the great assistance from the international community, and in particular our great friend and partner Japan, all working together to help us restore peace and stability. Now across many Afghan-owned and Afghan-led programs, Afghanistan and her people are beginning to live fuller, richer, healthier, and happier lives.

Afghanistan is a young country with the majority of the population being under 18 years of age. Therefore, educating the young generation and enhancing their human potential, is the foundation for making Afghanistan’s future peaceful, resilient, and prosperous. Today, Afghanistan is looking towards its promising future – a future of overcoming the darkness of the past together; a future of assuring the protection of peace and democracy; a common future of friendship and collaboration. I am inviting you all to be a part of this future. Let us continue to work towards ensuring democracy, security, and happiness to the people of Afghanistan.

A zillion thanks to you!
