All foreign visitors are required to have an entry visa issued prior to their arrival in Afghanistan. Visa applications require a 3-step procedure: 1. Payment of the application fee 2. Submission of the materials 3. (If accepted) collection of the visa
1. Payment of the application fee There are multiple forms of visas, each with a separate fee. Official passport holders are may not be required to purchase the visa. Please consult with the Consular Section when unsure. Visa types offered are listed below:

In preparation for the introduction of a new Visa system, please follow the temporary procedures for Visa applications:
For applicants who have an inviting party (people you know, or have office, in Afghanistan)
Those who do not have inviting party in Afghanistan
Please be informed that the application process may take 1 week or longer. The actual visa fee of the category applied for may differ from the visa the applicant qualifies for, therefore the Embassy of Afghanistan in Japan strongly recommends contacting its Consular section, and making payment at the bank after qualifying for a visa.

The Embassy does not accept payment in cash. Payment must be made using the inter-bank remittance system before the submission of a visa application. Please enter the full name of the principal applicant as the payer. Applicants are responsible for any service charge including currency conversion levied by the bank. Agents can enter the name of their agency as the payer. Note that the original or a copy of the remittance receipt is required with your application.
Please note that the fee paid to the Embassy bank account is non-refundable, even when the visa is not issued. 2. Submission of Application Materials
In order for an application to be accepted, a party must submit:
Press and media: All press and media related visitors must inform Consular staff at the Embassy when applying for visa, and visit the website of Media Center, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan, (http://mfa.gov.af/en/page/3886) to prepare necessary documentation. Please visit the Media Relations Office of Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Chahar Rahee Malek-Asghar, Kabul), or the Department of MOFA in cities listed on the Media Center webpage upon arrival in Afghanistan to obtain a letter of accreditation.

3. Collection of approved visas An approved visa is in most cases issued on the next day the Consular Section is operating.
Hours of Operation *In the event of a public holiday or Embassy closure, appointments will be scheduled as follows: Tuesday (in place of Monday) and Friday (in place of Thursday). Closures will be announced via the main page of the Embassy’s Web site.
