His Excellency Second Vice President Mohammad Sarwar Danish

His Excellency Mohammad Sarwar Danish swore the oath of allegiance and became Afghanistan’s Second Vice President on the 29th of September 2014. H.E. Mr. Danish was born in the Ishtarlay District of Daykundi Province in 1961 and has an academic background in Islamic Fiqh (the human understanding of Sharia) and Law and has published a great deal of work as well as having taught at Kabul University.

H.E. Mohammad Sarwar Danish was a member of the Afghan Constitutional Commission, mandated by the December 2001 Bonn Agreement to draft a new constitution. The Constitution was finalized and officially signed on January 26, 2004 by H.E. former President Hamid Karzai. H.E. was chosen by H.E. former President Karzai as the first Governor of Daikundi Province after its creation in 2004. From 2004-2009, H.E. Mr. Danish was also the country’s Minister of Justice and additionally served as Acting Minister of Higher Education and was promoted to the position of Minister of Higher Education in 2010. At the time of Afghanistan’s 2014 Presidential Election campaign, H.E. Mr. Danish supported H.E. President Ghani as a candidate for Second Vice President.
