Law on protection of children's rights approvedKabul, September 4, 2006 (Pajhwok Afghan News) – The Wolesi Jirga (lower house of parliament) on Monday approved the law on protection of children's rights with little amendments to the draft presented by the Justice Ministry. The law was under review with the lower house since Sunday. The law to protect children contains eight chapters and 66 articles. One of the changes made to the approved law was the presence of parents of a child in addition to his lawyers and witnesses during hearing of his case. There were 125 members in the house as they started discussion on the law. After approval, the number of members gradually reduced to 45. In the afternoon session, the House hold discussions on the administrative reforms commission. Most of the MPs criticised commission's officials for involvement in corruption. However, the session was adjourned for lack of quorum. |
