Moderate Earthquake Hits Afghanistan

KABUL, January 5 (Xinhua)

A moderate earthquake of 5.9 magnitude on the Richter scale struck Afghanistan in the small hours of Monday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

The quake hit Afghanistan at around 3:43 a.m. (2313 GMT Sunday)at the depth of 180 km in Hindu Kush region, some 278 km northeast from capital city of Kabul.

No loss of people's life or property was reported so far.

It was the third earthquake that jolted the country in the past 10 days with the last one measuring a magnitude of 6.2 just a day before.
