Afghanistan expresses interest in Indian legal systemNew Delhi, March 1, 2007 (PTI): Afghanistan Thursday [1 March] has expressed interest in the functioning of the legal system and justice dispensation in India. An 11-member delegation led by Afghanistan's Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ghulam Farooq Wardak called on Minister for Law and Justice H.R. Bhardwaj here. The delegation included two judges of the Supreme Court of Afghanistan - Justices Mohammad Omar Babrakzai and Mohammad Alim Nasimi - and prominent members of both Houses of Afghan Parliament Burhanullah Shinwari and Liaqatullah Babakerkhil. The Afghan delegation evinced keen interest in the functioning of the Ministry of Law and Justice. An official release said Bhardawaj told the members of the delegation that the judiciary in India "is absolutely free" and the ministry has "no say in its functioning". The Afghan delegation apprised the minister about the justice system in Afghanistan. |
