Karzai to attend SCO summit in ChinaKabul , June 13, 2006 (Pajhwok Afghan News) - President Hamid Karzai will visit China to attend the 5th meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) this week. Speaking at a news conference here on Tuesday, Presidential spokesman Karim Rahimi said the president would hold talks with his Chinese counterpart Hu Jintao and leaders of other member states. During his stay in China, the Afghan president also sign agreements in different sectors, including economic cooperation, trade and commerce, investment, education, military and agriculture. Rahimi said Afghanistan wanted to get membership of the SCO. The organisation was established five years ago by China , Russia , Uzbekistan , Kazakhstan , Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan . The president will also visit Kazakhstan on a special invitation from Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev after attending the SCO meeting. He will attend a summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in Almaty. Lailuma Sadid |
